In-Class Exercise2 (Cafe Stool)
Task: Make a café stool from corrugated cupboard sheets and using a few other equipments like sticky tape, scissors and rulers.
Our Group designed a Triangular stool, with three legs. The seat was made out of several layers of cupboard and the last layer covered all other layers so it looks better and also neater. We had the small supporters around the legs so the stool does not wobble and give the stool more strength.
Learning objectives: the task was really great idea; it gave more knowledge about stool structure which it is related to the structure of a chair. I learned how to build a strong base is really important for design a stool or a chair. After doing this task, I started to think about design a strong and taught base that could hold lots of weight with facing no troubles.
In-Class Exercise1
Explanation:
The task of the In-class Exercise 1 is to make the TALLEST “TOWER”. The materials that we had to use were limited, so we had to design a good structure that could be tall as well.

Learning objectives: Very fun task and enjoyable, however, it had some good purposes. We learned how to build a tall structure from very thin and light materials. We had troubles with the base, because it is the most important part of the “tower”. Without a strong base, you can’t build a high “tower”, that’s why I tried to make a good base that could hole more sticks up to make it taller and taller. As we had different groups and each group had different ideas of how to build the structure, so we learned from each other different concepts. I really enjoyed this entertaining and teaching task.
Mock Up 1 (Folding CHair)
Chair explanation: This chair has a very nice feature, which it is the back rest. The back rest could be folded and then it could be use as a table. It is also light weight, which it could be easily moved from a place to another place. One of the features that I did not really like was the hinge part. That was the weakest point of the design. It’s not strong enough to hold a heavy weight. Even if I did add another hinge there, there wasn’t going to be tough as I want it to be. The other issue that comes from the hinge is the SAFETY issue. The hinges will be uncovered and it could be dangerous for physical contacts due to the sharp edges of the hinge. And it really didn’t match with the design. That’s why I started to change the idea. Overall rate for this chair will be 6/10. It needs to be more developed.
